ME ME

"I left poetry for painting in order to connect with more people. The route to painting was indirect. First I created paper cuts using scissors and paper, then scissors transformed into a chisel and I started to incise wood to create images. I moved onto painting, using black ink on rice paper and oil on canvas. Through all these forms, I maintain a pointillist technique where images are obscured, yet discernable. Whatever the medium, my works are uncomplicated and honest. Typically subjects are people, landscapes or sites familiar to me. I often use red when I paint. For me, it elicits a sense of excitement, attraction and heat. Painting with red gives any subject a new vitality and strength. When people see my art, I hope they receive both an emotional and a material pleasure, a sense of viewing something familiar, but in a new and fresh way."Ren Hui was born in 1957 in Nanjing, China.
